Canaan Valley National Wildlife Refuge by starlight
This shot was taken on January 25, 2014, at 2:37 am. I try and head to Canaan a few times a year, usually to ski at White Grass Ski Touring Center. The stars were indeed bright. The colder air allows for much clearer skies. The clouds in this photo are very low lying, magnifying the reflected light coming from the neighboring towns and ski resorts. Side note, the one tight grouping of stars near the left middle edge is called the Jewel Box cluster.
